BJP which should actually feel positive about the upcoming elections in the light of not so great performance of the UPA Government seems being dragged down by infighting.
BJP for long has been known for its inner party discipline with a great level of democracy within the party. However, ever since Uma Bharti revolted against the party high command and the party went little soft with her initially, more and more instances of such disobedience to party high command diktats have come to the fore.
The latest one is from Arun Jaitley the firebrand leader of BJP and a prominant spokesperson.
Jaitley keeps off party poll panel meetings – Neena Vyas
NEW DELHI: Infighting in the top echelons of the Bharatiya Janata Party came into the open on Friday, when general secretary Arun Jaitley absented himself from two central election committee meetings here.
There was a buzz around the central party office that Mr. Jaitley had threatened to quit, but that was denied. Some leaders said Mr. Jaitley had told some friends in the party that he would do the work allotted to him but could think about quitting it after May 13, when polling for the Lok Sabha elections gets over.
Over the past several days since Mr. Jaitley protested against the appointment of Sudhanshu Mittal as co-in charge of political affairs in northeastern states, several late-night meetings have taken place at the residences of party chief Rajnath Singh and the prime ministerial candidate, L.K. Advani, to try and sort out matters.
It is learnt that some senior Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh leaders, including Suresh Soni and general secretary Ram Lal, attended these meetings.
It was made clear to Mr. Jaitley that Mr. Mittal’s appointment would not be reversed as it had the approval of Mr. Advani and Mr. Singh and that he had “delivered” the alliance with the Asom Gana Parishad for the BJP. (Thanks: The Hindu)
